I find these two stories very upsetting. Could someone please tell me that my African American child will not have the face these similar situations when he is older. Some please tell me when he is older the OVERT racism will no longer exist. Someone please tell me this will not happen to him (Man thrown off US Air flight for saggy pants) when the same airline allows this (Man in Female Panties flies on US Air).
Shame on you US Air, SHAME!
Okay, I set through these videos. I did not see, and I was looking for it, overt racism. In fact, I don't think I saw any. The only thing that came close was the young man's attorney's claiming racial profiling.
ReplyDeleteWhether they have a case because of their choice of attire, I don't know. I can tell you that I don't like seeing people with their saggy pants. Keep me updated on these case.

p.s. As you know, I grew up in an all white town. I sort of know racism.
Mark,
ReplyDeleteYou can't tell me they didn't target the saggy pants kid (who is a college student on a football scholarship) because he wasn't white.
US Air claims they asked him to get off the flight because he refused to pull up his pants (they claim were below his butt and at the knee). The SFPD report states only the top portion of his boxer short were visible. Furthermore, he was not confrontational when asked to get off the flight, but did stand his ground as a person who purchased a ticket (there is phone camera recording of it). Being kicked off a flight and arrested for this while a white man wearing a women's clothing that even an female would have been asked to cover up gets to fly....if that is Overt racism, then please tell me what is.
Okay, I stand corrected.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry, I guess I didn't even listen to the second video this morning. I just assumed that the old white guy was tossed off the plane too. See, maybe I should listen more often. No wonder I never hear racial remarks thrown my way. ha!
My apologies. But at least it got you to write to me finally!
