My Birthday, Just Another Day, Well Kinda

Yesterday was my birthday.  I took the day off work to enjoy My Day.  Ha!  Maybe it is just me, but a birthday is a special day and those in your life should treat you special.  Let me tell you how the one significant person in my life treated me for my birthday and tell me if I am overreacting or not.  The day started off with hugs and kisses to wake me up at 7:30am.  This was fine and good even if I did say I wanted to sleep-in.  I am a morning person and didn't mind.  Had breakfast with the kids before they left for the day.  As he is leaving he says, "Enjoy your day, I left you a note on the kitchen counter."  All excited I go to check it out as fast as I can as they pull away from the house.  The "letter" is a list of CHORES, yes CHORES !! I think to myself he is probably planning an evening for us and doesn't want the sitter to see the house in a mess.  So, why not do a few things. First, I had an appointment to get my haircut.  When I got back from my haircut, I cleaned the kitchen, did laundry, vacuum and mopped the floors all with the hopes of getting a big payoff in the evening.  I even worked in the yard a little.  Later in the afternoon, I call him and tell him I will pickup the kids.  He says, "No, I will get them, just enjoy your day off."  A reconfirmation that he MUST have something planned.  While waiting for them to arrive home, I call him and asked what did he think I should make for dinner.  He says, "We will have leftovers."  I think "Leftovers?"  "He knows I hate leftovers.""He IS taking me out to dinner and just doesn't want to tell."  They finally get home.  He asked if I could take care the kids while HE gets dinner together.  I think, "Oh, he is going to cook dinner for me.  How sweet."  (When he cooks, it is good. I say again WHEN he cooks).  So, I am playing with the kids and keeping them busy when like 15 - 20 mins later he says dinner is ready.  I think, "WHAT?"  I take the kids to the table and get them all setup in their chairs.  HE PUTS PLATES OF SLICES MICROWAVED PIZZA ON THE TABLE!!  I have no idea where he got it from.  But, I would not be surprised if he picked up at the deli inside the grocery store.  The SAME GROCERY STORE my cake came from that HE PICKED UP ON THE WAY HOME !!!

NO CANDLES !!

NO BIRTHDAY CARD !!
And to add insult to injury,   NO GIFT !!

I understand that when you have children, they become the most important things in your life.  I don't expect the real nice night out on the town and dinner with all our friends anymore.  I don't expect the real nice gifts anymore.  They say it isn't the gift but the thought that counts.  Tell me, what thought it took for a piece of microwaved pizza and store bought cake!!!!

  1. He should just consider himself lucky. He lived to see the next day, evidently.

    Happy Belated, James!
